BSE SENSEX

BSE Sensex is the stock market index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), one of the largest stock exchanges in Asia. The BSE Sensex, also known as the S&P BSE Sensex, measures the performance of the 30 largest and most liquid companies listed on the BSE. It is considered one of the leading indicators of the Indian stock market and is widely followed by investors globally. The index is computed using a free-float market capitalization-weighted methodology, where the level of the index reflects the total market value of all the companies included in it.

These 30 companies are selected based on their market capitalization, liquidity, and industry representation, and are considered to be the barometers of the Indian stock market. The SENSEX is widely used as a benchmark for the performance of the Indian stock market and is followed by investors globally. It is computed using a free-float market capitalization-weighted methodology, meaning that the level of the index is reflective of the total market value of all the companies included in it, adjusted for the number of shares that are readily available for trading in the market. The BSE SENSEX is considered a key indicator of the Indian economy and its performance is closely watched by investors, economists, and policymakers.

How is the BSE Sensex calculated?
The BSE SENSEX (Sensitive Index) is a stock market index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in India. It is calculated based on the free float market capitalization weighted method, where the level of the index reflects the total market value of all the stocks in the index relative to a particular base period. The SENSEX considers the market capitalization of the 30 largest and most actively traded companies listed on the BSE. The market capitalization of a stock is calculated by multiplying the price of the stock by the number of outstanding shares of the company. The SENSEX is adjusted for corporate actions such as stock splits and dividends.
Free-Float Market Capitalisation = Market Capitalisation x Free Float Factor
